i started out on nakhla, but the hookah that i first used was just a major pile of shit. i wanted to order some nakhla for the purpose of sentimental value and to give it another go. I realize that nakhla tends to be a bit harsher and gives a bigger "buzz" than many other shisha's, but my question is does it give thick smoke? its been a while and like i said, the hookah used was a piece of shit Edited by Apollo

Nahkla can give good smoke... However in my experience it needs more heat to get it going... once
your getting it then you need to reduce the heat a bit otherwise your going to burn it to hell & back.

I normally use a windcover for this. In a 'normal' style bowl i would fill it fairly full and thick.
Then take a long needle and prick about 24,385 holes in the foil... with about 8 DEEP holes going right down through
the tobacco to the bottom.

Then i use 2x3-king coals on the top (this is a lot of coal for a normal bowl) and it gets nahkla going good biggrin.gif

Once we're getting the clouds, i then lift off the wind cover to reduce the heat (It's amazing how much of an effect heating a bowl with a wind cover makes).

Lift on/off the wind cover according to how much smoke/heat you need. [The coals are in North&South positions]

Then for the 2nd part of the session I would use another two coals [East & West] this time. However i rarly need
the wind cover for part 2 as the tobacco has reached a good temp.

I hope my ramblings help!

Isn't using 2 3k coals unnecessarily?

When I smoke Naklha, I just put almost full amount of Shisha, poke a lot of holes in it with a small needle and use one coal broken in half. Always have great sessions that way and I get enough thick smoke with it.

Something for you gents to remember.

Very very very very often in the uk the shisha available to us is probably a lot older
and a bit dryer than anything you could find in the us.

Hence sometimes we need a bit of extra fannying around.

But that is just my pet theory - I can only post & advise as i find.

You might want to try using a screen. I found that when I used foil in the past, Nakhla burned too easily and got harsh. The screen allows you load up on the coals you need to get a good smoke going. And don't forget; don't let the tobacco touch the screen/foil.

I usually use two layers of foil for nahkla with a lot of small holes from a thumb tac or something. Hop on 2 quick coals near the edges and you'll be good. The only problem is you have to be constantly managing the coals, if you don't it will taste like shit.

I actually found that I got really nice thick clouds of smoke, but the buzz is really a killer. Like afazal, it doesn't taste that great and the buzz hits really hard.
