Perfect solution to light natural coals !

Recommended Posts

Hi,
Yesterday I was at one friend's house and we smoked some bowls of hookah. We used Nour Fingers, so not quick lightning coals. I was really surprised how he lighted those coals. He took a kind of "Hair-dier". It's not used for the hair but for removing wallpaper from the walls etc.
This machine produces about 600celsius temperature, one can regulate temperature and speed of the air on the machine. We had one piec of nour in 30seconds on fire!!!  I was absolutely surprised about that, it was faster than lightning a quick-light coal !!
And there is no use of gas etc., just electricity and a small tin where the coal was in ...
I have no idea what the English name of this machine is, but here´s one link, where you can see one...
I will definitly buy one of this machines in the near future. One can buy  those from 15Euro onwards ...

I hate double posting but you can't edit unfortunately :(

Anyway, Heißluftgebläs
translates as hot air blower on google so it must be a heat gun.
They are commonly used for stripping paint.

Do you know how many watts that one was?  I didn't think they would be powerful enough to be able to light chunks of charcoal.

yes, heatgun ... that's the wright term I think ...
It was a 2000 watts one, he bought it in a german "do-it-yourself store". For 20 Euro. It was 550-600°C.  One can find them also in ebay, for ~15Euro for the 2000Watts.
There are as well really expensive machines for around 150Euros... but cheap ones seem to work as well !

Thats really an ingenious idea Tobbsman - I can't help to wonder if the technology would be suited for primary heat source - that is to say not for ignition of coal but instead of coal.
Electric heaters are seen before (with little succes) - but this might be working proporly. Though - with 2000 W I think it will be best to hold to just igniting - if you dont have your own windmill in the backyard

Imagine someone actually did use it on their hair

nasty.

anyways, I don't do much diy, how easy is the thing to use? and do u have to wait long for it to heat up?

also, does he light it using the 550 deg setting?

my local place does some absolutely amazing coals which are the best
in history (although they are about 10 english pounds for 72 pieces,
but each one lasts about 45 mins which is awesome) . But need a gas hob
or something to light them (They come in discs). this would be great
for them if it works.

is it pretty safe too, and does it cool down quick?

can get them from all over, but no point purchasing unless I have more info.
thanks :)

Mo, a heat gun is just a supercharged hairdryer!  It doesn't any
time to heat up.  I think I might get one and start to use natural
coals although quicklites ARE cheaper at £8 a box!

I can't get the natural coals anywhere here.  I saw Nour coals for
about £4 at a grocery store at Bolten which is 45 mins away from me
unfortunately :(.  I was thinking of buying them but I thought it
too inconvenient having to use a stove all the time especially since
90% of the time I smoke will be while watching a movie with other
company so I can either miss part of it or piss everyone else off an
pause.

Dang now I wish I had bought them when I had the chance!
