HarryTheHookaMaster
I set my Hooka on a small rug. About 2x3 does the trick. It protects the floor from any little sparks and dropped(!) coals....Harry
kornkitten42
use a smaller area rug, or dont smoke inside my friend uses a metal sign and then places a rug over it so the hookah is on flat level instead of just carpet and the rug to make sure it doesn't burn through the capret. puffinsandiego
I normally smoke outside but when I'm inside we put down a big piece of cardboard. The good thing about cardboard is if you spill on it, you can just throw it away and break out a new box.

cypherkk
I use a towel. I recommend a small carpet from lowes/home depot or walmart. 2x2 should work depending on size ifyou are really worried go with 5x5 and make sure its one of the flat nothickness carpets, I could just see the leaning tower of hookah on a shag rug. Lakemonster
There are two precautions I waould take.1. A rug rated for use in front of a fireplace (yes special fire retardant rugs)2. Bowl with lid combo....

camelflage
QUOTE (Monil @ Mar 11 2007, 12:32 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>k so at uni next year they ban coal based equipment on the basis that accidents will damage the floor.what can i do to effectively 100% assure no burns whilst using it? any sort of mechanism or tool? umm, if they ban coal-based equipment you can diamond plate the floor around you and bring your own fire department, but it still won't matter, since you would be using some sort of coal regardless. unless the ceramic heater idea gets fleshed out some more you might be out of luck. Sonthert
A plastic mat they use for the floors under office chairs works well. The best way to guarantee not to burn the floor is not to smoke at all. Or develop a way to smoke without charcoal or heat source.
