EminemJLG
Im considering buying a new hookah. Ive been looking around and there are alot different types of hookahs(IE: Egyptian, Mya, Syrian, Bohemian, etc.) Is there a difference as far as functionability goes? Or are the different types there for looks. I know alot of the Myas have a screw on stem and base. But Does one type of hookah usually hit better than the other? Whats the biggest difference between them all? I'm also thinking about buying a hookah with a ice chiller and maybe one with 2 hoses versus 1. What are your guys' thoughts on those? Also what does the size of the hookah actually do for the smoking experience? Thanks in Advance! Sonthert
I think common chamber hookahs don't hit as hard and they don't clear at all when blowing through them. I much prefer the traditional type. Just an opinion.

Zerodynamic
+1 I have never heard of a common chamber..
mushrat
As for syrian vs egyptian bowl configurations (bowl fits IN the stem in a syrian, ON the stem with an egyptian) The biggest difference there is that all the juices run down the stem and don't make a mess with a syrian. With an egyptian, all the liquids run down the outside of your hookah.
not.plugged.in
ive also have noticed a difference in the ash trays, the egyptian will have a snap style to it where the inside is raised a bit, while in the syrian the tray is flat in the center and is screwed in.this just may be the case with my 2 hookahs so i don't know if you can go by this info
Allia22
Do they Syrian bowls tend to wobble around less than Egyptian? The bowl I got with my first hookah didn't fit at ALL even with a grommet, and it melted every grommet I'd use (another reason to love the funnel, it doesn't get hot enough to do that! XD). teox
so for good hookahs that smoke well and are pretty convenient, we should get a mya?

cohlineman
Here is what you should do....like everyone else here has probably experienced or will experience....First take Alia22's advice, get a convenient small hookah that everyone has good luck with. If you don't like the narghile and its pleasures, you're not out much, if you like it....You will then become a passionate imbecile and begin purchasing one after another, as finances permit, of every kind you and the others have mentioned. You will have become a collector. Every style and every brand has its idiosyncrasies, its pluses and minuses. Some smoke one brand of tobacco better than another, some remind you of a lounge you went to and some suck terribly but look great on your coffee table! everybody wants the "best" this or that, there is no such thing! "I want to find the best 'thing' and never get another." Most humans already have the stupid idea ingrained in them that monogamy and those ridiculous commandments are desirable, that is bull crap, so at least give yourself variety with the hookah! mushrat
allia: i'd have to say yes to the wobble thing. Since the bowl is socketed with the syrian tere is less wobble room. The Egyptian is just free to move being onb the outside of the step and nothing holding it in place.
