Attempted To Light My Finger Coals With A Normal Lighter..

Recommended Posts

I woke up in the middle of the night because my dog wanted to go outside so I took him out. I have a slight hangover from drinking 6 or 7 beers.. anyway to my point.

I tried lighting finger coals with a lighter and I got one going then I burnt my thumb on the metal part of the lighter and dropped it and kind of melted a dvd case. (Evil Dead 2)

So I tried lighting up another one cuz I didn't really want plasticy coals. Well I got that one really going after a while and then the same thing happened. I burnt my thumb again and dropped it on the movie again. So I give up that method. I'm just desperate I guess. I haven't been able to go to the store to get anything else to light these things so I can't right now.

Will a torch lighter light these things or do I really need a portable burner or a different lighter? I had a butane lighter like the bbq kind but I can't find it anywhere. If torch lighters work I will pick one up wherever they are sold..hopefully gas stations sell those. I'm not really sure what other store would.

Also I know I posted something similar to this and you guys said that the portable burner would be good and some other type of lighter. I'm not sure what the difference of a torch lighter or the other lighter that was mentioned is so I am just making sure I buy the right kind that will work to light these things. Edited by jerjer72

The "turbo" lighters will work, just VERY slowly.
I suggest a brazing/creme brulle mini torch ($23-$28), a full sized propane torch ($12), or a hot plate ($10).

I also suggest NOT lughting them over your dvd's, but berhaps an old pot or pan.
I am now using a mini cast iron cauldren I got for $7.50 at a store near here...gread for piling n the coals.
