The_Eyeball_kid
Does hookah smoking produce the same damage as cigarettes do to thevocal chords? I'm a huge fan of Tom Waits and all, but i don't wanna sound like the guy. *cough*
DizzyGuy
I've smoked and sung just as good... but I can't attest to long term damage... Although, if you smoke alot, you'll have less lung capacity
jerjer72
I'm sure you will be fine smoking. I smoked cigarettes for almost 7 years and I am fine. I have a deep voice so I'm not sure how singing goes for smoking..I don't really sing much but when I do I think I sound fine. At age 90 are you really going to want to sing anyway? Unless you plan on being one of those people who goes karaoking (yes spelling is wrong) with other people when you are that old.. djbomberto
if you do anything, it will damage certain parts of your body. if your really concerned. Contact your local Dr.
Johnny_D
like anything related to smoking and has been often lamented. If your worried about any aspect of it... don't do it.I think it's fair to say most smoke hookah because they enjoy it. I think that's about it.JD
angemonkwj
if singing is what u do and u practice a bit then the damage wont be as bad because you'll be using those muscles and ur lungs more.
web250
I smoked Saturday, and then sang Carmina Burana at the Grand Opera House in Wilmington, DE...I was fine.
teox
i like how everyone is sugarcoating it. yes it can be detrimental to singing long term. i have several friends who refuse to smoke because they sing. find something else to do if singing is a serious thing for you. Allia22
While screaming along to my Manson, I found I developed a nice growl while I was smoking my cheap peach cigars. Dunno how it would have worked out if I were a soprano, but I'ma see if I can get it again with hookah.
samildanach
i've been smokin hookah for over 2 years now, and you know what? i think your right..it does affect ur vocal chords.. why didnt you tell me earlier..damnit i cant sing anymore....but ... i couldnt sing before i started hookah smokin anyway hey ho
metalhead209
i would think the worst thing from smoking is heat damage to your throat(for singing purposes anyway) which hookah eliminates alot of. Id say as long as it doesnt become habitual in other words smoking every other weekend or so i dont think it would do much to your vocal chords. eat some ginger or make tea with ginger and drink that to help counter act some of the effects if your realy worried. I used to sing along to that when I was smoking too. One of my favorites was Spade I think it's called. That was a few years ago but I just found that cd the a week ago. Lol yes found.. kornkitten42
if you smoke it will over time damage your singing ability. If you keep doing your octaves and practice you scales everyday you'll be fine if you smoke in moderation (1 or 2 a week)i smoke hookah and i sing fine, you have to train your voice. and keep it clean/ clear/ and unrusty
kornkitten42
hot lemon water does well before a preformance as well* and I LOVE "growling" to manson, slipknot and mudvayne, and mushroomhead ect*! I am trying to learn how to train my voice to do a long "growl" without my throat hurting afterwards.
The_Eyeball_kid
Seems like (almost) everyone here thought I was asking because I was afraid of ruining my vocal chords. I'm not. I actually love the raspiness and lower voice you getfrom smoking. I was just curious if the same effect is achieved from smokingthe good ol' hookah. I had a friend in gym class collapse in front of me..and died when we were doing laps so.. running kind of scares me. We used to have to do runs in grade 7, 8, and 9 that were 21 min or so and we had to run as fast as we could for as long as we could. If we stopped the teacher would yell and dock marks, make you stay later. You couldn't slow down..it was hell. If you were the first few with the most laps he would like you..if you were under those few we felt like shit. After those runs I felt so out of breath and my legs felt like they weren't there.. Felt dizzy.. it was pure hell! Scary!! I know that probably ment I was out of shape but I wasn't fit in grade 7. What grade 7er should be forced to do that? I know that was years ago but I still think of it and its scary.. I used to start skipping those runs and then got no marks but it was better than torturing myself..
