A Whole Carton Of Cig Nicotine In 1 Bowel?

Recommended Posts

see i used to smoke cigs, and did for many years. What i experience with hookah is completely different imho.

with hookah yes i get " cravings" but with cigs i had a craving everytime i ate, woke up, every hour etc.....

When i'm out and about i'm not constantly looking for my hookah to light up.

Some nights i dont even smoke and i only smoke once a day if that.

Where as with cigs i would smoke if i was bored, at work, whatever i was doing the constant withdrawl, jittery, cravings etc were all there.

I don't freak out if i dont get to smoke my hookah one night or what not or if i dont get my "hookah fix" and i've been smoking my hookah for years......

i call this study bs. and i have a heart condition ( i 'm not supposed to eat or drink caffeine (sp) chocolate, tea, coke, or have any level of "stress"). If i were to light up a cig at any time before or now... my heart would INSTANTLY begin to flutter and skip beats..... With hookah my heart NEVER acts up and i smoke constantly for hours......

Ok so I did a quick scientific study, I got a pack of cigarettes, and unwrapped them. Then I sprinkled the tobacco intoa bowl, it took the entire pack of cigarettes to fill the bowl... So, there you go, smoking hookah is like smoking a pack of cigarettes.

Agreed. It seems like a bunch of care tactic bullshit.

Exactly, the media "plays" on fear in ignorant people...! (And there are A LOT of them!)

One has to consider the fact that the study was done in Egypt; it is probable the study was done on traditional styles of tobacco (e.g. zaghoul), in which the amount of nicotine is very high. Unless we have access to the data, we can't argue over their claims.

Excellent point, just what I was thinking. Or that crazy shisha that Mushrat sent some of us, that stuff had to have had lots of nicotine or something in it!!! To knock you on your ass the way it did after a few...definitely an India / Eygpt traditional shisha...unlike the stuff here.

I am seriously getting tired of seeing bullshit information like this. I think our society will likely accept this findings as truth too without analyzing the source. Its an uphill battle. Damn the media!

Yes, I was just having this debate the other day with some co-workers. The media will skew outlooks on anytihng and everything, to scare people. People will believe anything! Idiot people that is...

As for the media, watch the tv tonight, guaranteed you will see something along the lines of ... "This deadly substance is in most homes, and it could be slowly killing your kids, Find out what it is tonight at 10pm!"

I would LOVE to see some legitimate studies on hookah, but to be honest, we will NEVER see those results....NEVER!!!

Yeah, as said before this is not applicable to American style hookah (or probably many other countries). I am under the impression that the stuff they smoke in Egypt and nearby regions is basically high-nicotine, unflavored tobacco that they just pile the coals on without foil. This means that the tobacco is burnt, releasing much more tar, and the overall amount of nicotine released is higher.

I remember a while ago we did some calculations, and in a regular bowl of most tobaccos (especially low nicotine ones like Al Amir, Al Fakher, etc) there just plain isn't enough nicotine by mass in the tobacco to equal a pack of cigarettes. Not to mention the fact that some of the nicotine can burn off, and hookah tobacco isn't burnt as heavily as cigarettes anyway.

Also, again as said before, the content of other chemicals can be a higher concern. Right now it seems like the coals are likely to contain heavy metals that cause all kinds of shit in the body that you don't want, but I have yet to read anything conclusive about what they do and do not give off.

In hookah, or anything smoked, there is all kinds of factors and health concerns that are unknown, so basically the best you can do is to assume it's harmful until proven otherwise. I think the nicotine stuff is BS, but there's a chance that other things about it could be worse, so just assume it's bad for you.

It's not the job of science to bring study results to the mainstream - that's for the media to do, and they do a shitty job of it.
