Allia22
This hasn't happened before, so I don't know what's up. I get a major headache after every smoke session (lasts anywhere from 1/2 to 1 hour daily). I'm using 2 3K 33mms at a time, unwashed tobacco, funnel bowl, 2 layers of foil... I suspect that it's the fact that I don't always sit and blow on the coals until they're completely red, or maybe that I sometimes get a lung-full of the smoke they give off when they're sparking like crazy (aka CO problems). Would that be it or is it something else? I'm running out of Advil >.<
NargileClub
Hey Alli it could be a combination of things. First you might be getting headaches from the Charcoal not at it full glowing and also smokeing the hookah while the quick lite are doing there thing thats not good. Also your Blood Sugar could be low. Just either drink something sweet with your hookah or suck on a piece of candy while your smokeing or after. Do you feel like your dizzy or off balance. This might have something also to do with the low blood sugar. Lack of food in the system while smokeing Hookah is not very good. Also two layers of foil? Wow talk about Aluminum Oxcides mmmmm yummie. Good luckSmiley
kornkitten42
Same thing happens to me. I blow on the coals and get a head rush. Relax for alittle bit and then go to smoking. Then about an hour after my smoke session started i start getting head throbs and the begining of a headache/ migraine. It's terrible. Sometimes they get so bad that i get dizzy and have to sit back down or i feel that i'm going to pass out. Instead what i do when i smoke, is usually drink a glass of water with my smoke sessions. I also make sure that if i start getting that akward feeling right before the headache starts, i'll take a break. Either pass the hose on, or just let it sit there for a while if i'm smoking alone. I make sure i have the fan on. I seem to get more headaches when i smoke if the room i am smoking in is hot. I also get more headaches with the disc quick lights than the silver japs. I also seem to get more headaches if i dont' let them ash over before putting them on the bowl ( co and the sparking agent) I also seem to get more headaches if i take long deep hits and Repeatedly try and make a billion smoke rings because i am holding in the smoke so long and cutting off air flow so i can release them. I dunno i get the same problem. If i feel akward and keep smoking you can bet your ass that i have a dibilitating migraine in the morning. (you might want to switch from advil to excedrine. that seems to help me more. Hope my situations and what triggers me more, helps you. Good luck. I've gotten to the point where some nights if i know i'm going to have a long smoke session i pop an excedrine anyways.ps. I also noticed that i get more headaches if i smoke on an empty stomach . Allia22
I don't smoke while the coals are fizzing and popping, I know more than to do that I light them up, put them in the tray til they're done doing their thing then plop them on, I just sometimes breathe in some of the smoke. Yeah, I do feel dizzy while/after I smoke. It gets hard to hear anything for a while too, that doesn't seem right. So you think aluminum's the culprit?haha, yeah, I'm always working on my smoke rings. Gotta have something to show for all the smoking I do I'll try some of those things out and see if that helps any. NargileClub
The majority of headaches that we have to deal with in the lounge are because people come in and smoke on a empty stomach.Need food. we don't use Foil at all. All glass at Smiley's. Also the water is always a big help. The Oxcides are bad but.If you have been doing the foil way and just recently had problems it might not be that. But more from the lack of sugar in your system. But Alli your a car gal look into Aluminum. you may be supprised.Smiley
killajakez
Quicklights obviously have to stop sparking completely. Naturals have to be red or you will get a very nasty headache (personal experience)What's with the glass method? I never seen that before. Where can i get one? OPR234
I used to get headaches all the time too. I looked it up and decided it was a combination of things that were giving me headaches, pretty much the way smiley described it. Although I don't think the aluminum has much to do with headaches, I'm sure it isn't good for you and might cause other bad things, but I used a double layer of foil and don't get headaches anymore. My problems that gave me headaches were blowing on quicklights to get them glowing more, I could get a little woozy just from blowing on them a lot, lack of oxygen in my system. Once I got them going decently, I'd instantly start puffing away before waiting a minute or two to catch my breath, which I think made me more vulnerable to the carbon monoxide (headaches can be a symptom of mild CO poisoning). My biggest problem was that I'd smoke alone and just smoke nonstop and just not breathe enough. I was also smoking on a very empty stomach without any sweets to munch on (learned this from the forum ). Hope something in here helps your headaches. I'd just let the quicklights get ashed up and glowing on their own, hold em next to a fan or outside if its windy to speed them up.
cypherkk
well I used to get headaches when using a wind cover. I was told this was due to taking inmore co2 with the windcover.I also occasionally get a headache when I smoke more than 2 bowls a day ( very rare) but not always. This is because my blood pressure goes up, which is what happens to you. I'm just guessing though.Try exercising aerobic more often. I notice when I walk I don't have that problem no matter how much I smoke.
teox
drink water, or gatorade/propel, i find this is what always works.dont smoke on an empty stomach like everyone said.and obviously, slow down when you feel the head rush coming.
Altron
I get the same thing and I think its a combo of things.I bought really crappy ass jap quick starts and afazal shisha, also very shitty. After one bowl if I can stand finishing it (no flavor just straight up licorish) I get really dizzy, and almost to the point where I want to throw up.I have gotten to the point where I am turned off by hookah and rather light up a cig.I can't wait for my fusion shisha and 3ks to come in.I have never had any other problems, even with nakhla shisha. JonJonello
I get headaches often when smoking shisha and i noticed its when I smoke with an empty stomach or I'm smoking for long periods of time without relaxing and taking a breath, also sometimes when i smoke and i start to taste the coals more than i taste the flavor i will get a headache its probably cause of the carbon monoxide.i made some videos of a kickback we had at a friends and i brought my hookah over, i smoked 4 bowls that night, chocomint, pineapple, pomegranet( thats spelled wrong), then chocomint again. i had the biggest headache of my life, i couldnt drive home and when i started to the bumpy road made me throw up, it was about 1 in the morning and i pulled over and threw up it was so gross, i ended up resting in my car for an hour b4 i was able to drive home saftely.so i recomend u dont smoke that many bowls all in one night....its a recipe for major head trauma
The_Eyeball_kid
4 bowls... I'd probably go into a coma after that.
AndrewM
i can smoke for hours and hours on end no problem.... the trick is oxygen and liquid... stay hydrated... and use fruit juice so you get sugar.. and keep window cracked so you get fresh air in the room your head is throbbing from a lack of oxygen and such.happy smokin! McDarragh
It's probably just the amount of nicotine, unwashed tobacco is aroun 0.5% nicotine and your probably just getting too much in a session, try cutting down on the amount you put in bowls or get some ppl around to share the load, or maybe just try washed tobacco to see if it has the same effect. Allia22
I can usually get my mom to take a few hits, it takes a bit more to convince my dad (he claims he's a 'finely tuned machine' and starts hacking after barely making the hookah burble ) It's the middle of March, everything's thawing out to some degree and I have the windows all open to get some fresh air into the house, and my mom comes home from work and automatically starts complaining "It's 45 degrees out, what are you doing with all the windows open?!?" while I'm laying in front of the tv comfortable in jeans and a t-shirt I've started holding the sparking coals over the air purifier and that works well in getting the coals completely red quickly. I wouldn't want to use a fan because those blow horizontally. The purifier blows air and the sparks upwards, although there are a bunch of black melted plastic specks all over the machine now >.< I didn't get a headache from hookah for the first time in a long time last night, thanks a bunch! *hugs everyone*

HookahTheDude
Not sure what the temperature is, but it's snowing again. Anyway, Saturday I had a mini smoke-fest because my stepbrother is staying for a week and since I recently got ten different kinds of shisha we were trying some out. One thing I really noticed is Afzal gives me the biggest buzz I've ever had from hookah, and if I do it on an empty stomach I get a headache afterwards. After smoking mostly Afzal all day Saturday, yesterday I had a huge headache, took me out all day pretty much. It was worse than a migraine, and prior to ever smoking hookah, I used to get migraines almost weekly. So in short, I contribute my headaches to smoking on an empty stomach. And they suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.
Scoop
i would used to get headaches after smoking more than 1 bowl when using any kind of instant lights. I used to smoke at coffee bean so it was always outside. I only use the japanese ones that start on the stove and i haven't gotten them for a while smoking inside with the windows open.I would also get migraines smoking at a hookah bar near my house. They had no indoor ventilation, and everytime i went there i would get one (yes, i stopped going). Some of them made me feel so bad I'd throw up, and they would instantly subside. I went there after work and I would usually not be hungry. I am guessing it was the lack of oxygen.I'm sure the aluminum flumes dont help either. akelboyz
I come up with the idea that when I use to smoke with quick lights and the Japan starburst charcoal I would end up with a terrible headache, now that I only use the natural wood it's not only a more enjoyable smoke but I also don't get the headache and the flavor of the tobacco is unbelievable! I hope this helps you!!
