Sex On The Beach?

I just got some starbuzz sex on the beach tobacco the other day. It smelt and tasted liek crayons to me. Does it taste like that to anyone else? Im just wondering if it was some bad tobacco or just a weird flavor? I read the reviews and it has some good reviews....

I have a tin of that flavor and I love it. I don't think mine tastes like crayons, what is your setup like? Did you let it acclimate?

I let it acclimate for only about an hr. Smoking it out of an egyptian hookah w/ ice in the base. On some natural wood coals.( They say natural even tho its 94% wood and 6% Starch).

let it acclimate for a little longer and then right before you smoke stir it up really well. Also what kind, and size bowl is it? How many holes are you putting in the foil? And also how many coals are you putting on there? How you pack the bowl also affects your smoke also.

its a large sgyptian clay, glazed bowl. I drop the tobacco in lightly then pack it down a little bit so there is about 1/8 from the top and the tobacco doesnt hit the foil. I put about 2-3 coals on(mayb i burned it too fast). I poke a decent amount of holes in it too. I poke the holes in a circle-like pattern all around the bowl.

from what i've tasted, starbuzz has and "artificial" taste to me. I kind of feel where he's comming from. I kind of feel like its the flavor from that bubble gum you used to get as a child. Ya know the cheap stuff. It's not the flavor but something behind the flavor in the background, like the bitter in beer.

Cant say it tastes like crayons. But then again, I never ate crayons as a kid, nor have I tasted any of them recently.

I life the flavor of X on the Beach. Try acclimating it for 5 or so hours. And about half way through that time stir it up really well. Then stir it up everytime you go to use it to pack a bowl.

My sister was the one who ate crayons, red (cherry) was her favorite. *shrug* I'd check how old your tobacco is, that's personally my biggest culprit to chemical-tasting shisha.

" What is “humidity shock” and what causes it?
Some manufacturers “wash” their tobacco to remove nicotine from it. Tangiers doesn’t “wash” its tobacco. Products that contain nicotine are sensitive to the effects of the humidity in the air. The tobacco will absorb moisture from the air slowly until it becomes “comfortable” (equilibrium is the chemistry word). If the humidity in the air is different than what the tobacco become comfortable with, then the tobacco will try to get comfortable again. If the weather changes or you open a package of tobacco up for the first time, this change may occur. During this period of change, if you try to smoke it during this period, you may find that it:
A) “burns the throat” or makes it feel tickly. This happens when the tobacco is comfortable with drier air than the air is when it is smoked.
Flavor dies out very quickly or seems weak or varies greatly during smoking. This happens when the tobacco is comfortable with more humid air than when it is smoked.
Remember, allow newly opened tobacco 4 hours or so to get comfortable with the surrounding air.
When you isolate your tobacco from the surrounding air, it protects it from strange or foreign odors, but it also prevents the tobacco from getting comfortable with the humidity in the air.

Just leave the shisha out for about 5 hours. Make sure the container is open so air gets to it. And just stir it up once or twice while its acclimating so everything becomes "equal".

This helps with bringing out the full flavor of the tobacco. Really only need to do it for Starbuzz and Tangiers. Others do it on other flavors, as I do but for most its not needed at all.

is your hookah clean?
what else could have added the flavor?
was the shisha left out in the sun for long periods of time?

maybe just a bad batch but cleaning your hookah to find out is always worth the time, they dont clean themselves -= )

Hmmm....it sounds like your hookah may need a good cleaning. This is just a guess, maybe you got a bad batch. Who knows? I had someone tell me the other day that Starbuzz Wildberry tastes like baby's diapers, but in a good way. So, to each his own in some instances.

That stuff is f**king good.But if its the littlest to hot it does taste like waxy taste. I useually use one cube of silver coated charcoal with a all Glass Smiley system. I rotate on a regular. If i use quick lite I like to cut in half and placed dome side down works real well also place the halfes on the edge of the bowls oppasite of each other also rotate Its how you place the coals and how offten you rotate your coals. Some you may need more Coal, others not so much. But if your on the money with your Heat manegment. Then you should not have any problems. I would add some Chocolate Milk to the Vase. One Shot for a large vase and ice water. Thats a Nizez If you use a unglazzed hookah Head. Try to dedicate a bowl to one flavor or keep to smokeing all berry shisha out of the bowl. Or all mint based shisha out of another. Double Apple out of the same bowl all the time. You will see a slow build up in flavor. The unglazed clay will absorb the flavor and eventually build up the flavor to a strong longer lasting session. Dedacating a hose in the same manner also is recomended it will just make it taste better in little ways. But in the end bigger flavor and longer lasting flavored sessions.
