teox
ok so i have a small hookah whos make and model i do not know. but what i do know is that the stem broke when i used it at a party the other day. basically its the part of the stem that protrudes from the rubber stopper. it snapped off right at the beginning of it. is there anything i can do to reattach it? jordanneff
Hrmm... if you good at welding umm, I'd say try some decent electrical tape around it so no air escapes and then afterwords maybe apoxy it back onto the rubber stopper, just make sure you don't get any apoxy IN the stem cause that might make for a nasty tasting smoke and possibly harmful
Pieces
If you don't know the make/model of it, you could always browse different online hookah stores and see if they might have it listed for ya
Johnny_D
If it's broken off at the stem flush up against the part that is in the rubber bungthen electrical tape ain't gonna help!Basically it's time to buy a new Hookah. Or use some cold weld maybe? Post some piccies. that may help JD

Zerodynamic
JB Weld is what I would use in this situation.
ghostofdavid
Depending on the amount of work required, I would get a new stem.

AndrewM
Buy a new hookah, one that has a make and model, and pretty shit all over it, and smokes like a champ, costs 200 bucks and turns into the sword of a thousand truths
LuxOR541
dude post pics. It might not be hard to fix if we can see what we have to work with. gotta see how it broke and then go from there.Nick

teox
for all i know someone could have smashed it though. i was drunk and out.i cant post pics, no camera. i think the brand is called nour or something. my gf bought it for me so i have no idea about it.i decided to go to ace and get waterproof epoxy. does anyone think there can be a problem with this? its airtight and waterproof epoxy. they said it would work better than JB weld. and by they i mean 1 senile worker. LuxOR541
If it's a nour it might be worth fixing. If it was a clean break on the downstem, I would square up both broken ends with a file, thread the inside of the hole where the downstem broke off, thread the inside of the downstem with matching threads, and get a matching threaded insert (or make your own by threading an appropriate piece of brass or stainless pipe - do NOT use any galvanized metal or carbon steel) to mate the two together. once the whole thing fits well, give the threads a LIGHT coating of JB weld or epoxy and screw it together. Once it sets up it would be solid as a rock.It would take some tools of course, tap and die set. And you may have to search around for the right diameter piece of pipe to thread as a coupler, but I think it will be the closest repair to the way it was originally. hope that helps. Lakemonster
epoxy based glues are things I have tended to shy away..... THEY DO WORK, tho.you should be just fine using epoxy on the lower end of a hookah.... try and keep apoxy fixes away from the bowl seat... I dont reccomend that at all, epoxy breaks down under heat and gets a bit noxious again. I used mucho epoxy... I made golf clubs. Its great stuff, but I dont care to get it around any of my smokin.gotta love that solder, baby.
LuxOR541
Yaeh or of course silver solder would work great.... good thinking lake.
teox
i dont know how to do any of that stuff. sigh...does anyone know where to get nour hookahs so i can just buy a new one? it smoked really well for its size but best of all is that it looks better than any hookah ive seen.i used epoxy on it but it just wont be the same . i fuckin hate people!!!!! Dudeman
jb weld will work best, get some of the jb quik. if it can hold an oil return line for a turbo car then it can hold a downstem on your hookah. just be patient and hold it while it dries. teox
how long should i wait for epoxy to dry before i can put it back in the base and start smoking? it seems stable for now.
hmpitags2006
it should give you cure times on the epoxy
Mahir
JB quick sets in 4 minutes but cures in 24 hours...Most all epoxys are going to cure in 24 hours.I think the product mush was talking about is called PC-7 (dark gray) ...that stuff in my opinion is better than JB Weld. They make a marine grade one called PC-11(white) and its good for anywhere that is around water...even underwater....Lets see some pics though.....If its right at the base of the down pipe....i dont think it is worth messing with-Mahir
teox
yeah i am using the pc-11 because it is waterproof.i took pics with my camera phone.http://www.hookahforum.com/uploads/1165808...51_40_14996.jpg
Sariél
QUOTE (LuxOR541 @ Mar 21 2007, 04:22 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>If it's a nour it might be worth fixing. There are different Nours. Someone gave me a cheap chinese nour, and its a piece of crap. The glass in the vase is so substandard that the threaded metal collar came off with shards of glass still stuck to it. Every time I glued it, it would come off again, with more glass stuck to the glue and metal. The hose had a glob of hot melt glue obstructing the flow, the bowl had hairline cracks, and the stem (the part of yours that broke) was crooked. Now it just sits on the shelf, a rack for spare hoses, bowls, windcovers, etc.Yours is worth temporarily fixing, but save up for a new, decent hookah. zoddi
how far down is it broken? you'd be better off getting some vinyl tubing from home depot that'll fit over there.
Mahir
Looks like you did a good job patching it up....id say use it until it breaks or gives up on you....It's not like it messes up the beauty of the hookah...you cant even see that part of the hookah -Mahir
