moosepotatoes
Okay, here's my question. What is the deal with charcoal holders I see on websites...I dont understand the purpose. Holding charcoals obviously but why. Mine are in a nice roll, and natural ones are in a bag. I read further and began to realize "Ohhhhh, it's for lit coals......interesting"......okay....wtf. Why do I need to have tons of lit coals ready to go? Cuz i mean, If I want to have a long smoke session...I begin smoking, okay, with my 20 lit charcoals in my cute little holder. Well after an hour (I cant smoke for too much longer than like 2 hrs anways but thats beside the point.) after an hour the coals on my hookah start going out, but no reason to fear I have twenty more lit in my cute litt----oh shit. THEY WENT OUT TOO!!!! WOULDN'T THEY JUST GO OUT TOO!!????I really dont get it. Is it for incase u own a hookah bar, and you need to be handing out lit coals left and right? mushrat
Hookah bars are one reason. I use a cast iron mini cauldron at home. I list up say a long finger of coal. Use part of it. leave the rest in the cauldron (also a dggod place to break them up safely). So I have some going colas in there. I discover i need a little more, I go back and get a small chunk. I also throw a few unlit lieces in for the lit ones to get started. After a little while i know im going to need more coal in about 10 minutes, i put another few chunks on the ole hot plate, get them ALMOST done, drop them in the cauldron. Come back a while later you have pieces in various stages of readiness...keep rotating new ones in as the old ones burn out...
DizzyGuy
if you have some in a pot... I think they get used up less then op top of a hookah... see when you inhale and it makes the coal get redder? that uses it up faster
joetuo
I am thinking about getting a charcoal holder since I have to carry my coals to my hookah from the kitchen and it always scares me going over the carpet holding my coals with just my tongs... Allia22
Tongs for me too. BTW, a coal finally exploded over (and into) the air purifier where I heat them up to glowing. Sparks were shooting everywhere for a good minute, my parents are sitting in the other room wondering why I'm screaming and yelling comedic treasures such as "I'm sorry!" "Oh my god!" and "OW!" Scheetz
Yep mostly a hookah lounge. So the coals can be carried around to the customers hookahs without carrying 1 at a time.I also use the tongs across the floor down the stairs..... You can also try bringing your bowl with you. Put the coal on it then carry the bowl with the tongs supporting the coal so it doesn't slide off. Best way to do it if you don't have a carrier. hbomb
I now have holes in my carpet because I didn't use a proper coal holder while transferring my coals from the stove to the hookah. Replacing carpet costs a lot more than a cheap but functional coal holder.

"Oh my god!" and "OW!"I was in our local lounge about 2 weeks ago when I went home to visit the parents. Picked up the extra coal in the tray to light it, after it sparked and was halfway burned I started blowing on it so it would be completely red hot. Damn thing exploded on me, piece blew onto my hand and gave me a nice big hole for the following weak.
cafesaden
actually, the charcoal holder is meant for people that use a MYA QT. the charcoal holder replaces the tray that doesn't work worth a damn. oh yeah --- i use my charcoal holder every time just keeps is cleaner not having a huge amount of ash in my tray or extra pieces of coals in the tray which could easily melt your grommets. also on my hookah nights where i have 4-5 hookahs going I will light like 6-7 fingers and break them up in the holder and go around the hookahs. not.plugged.in
i just fixed that tong across the carpet problem by holding a pan/griddle/top cover piece etc. underneath the coals while im transporting them to the hookahand then depending on how lazy i am the pan will sit next to me during the session or back in the drawer

"Oh my god!" and "OW!"HAHAH sorry not trying to laugh at you but i did something similar the other night and my fiance was like wtf are you doing!?!?! ( i bought a little portable stove unit thing to light my finger coals and the finger coal got mad at me and exploded on our carpet) i couldn't pick all the pieces up so here i am trying to pick them up, freaking out, and trying ot put the little ones out with my foot (first reaction is to stamp it out) so in turn i'm burning my foot hence the "ow".... lol but a string of worried obsenities are flowing from my mouth as i'm also saying " he's going to kill me" like a worried child who is afraid the clowns are going to eat him.......coal holders are great, i use it to light my quicklights and let them ash over and also use it o when my finger coals are waitingto be used. all in all it's great no burns in the carpet unless somethign dumb happens like expolding charcoal or dumb friends. lol Edited March 24, 2007 by kornkitten42
