sambookamax
p.s. the hookah I have now that is extremely tight, is the $15 one from smiley... Great Hookah, btw...just seems a bit tight where the stem connects with the base...
ghostofdavid
If you are having trouble and want a quick way to ease the stem into the vase, dip your finger in shisha and use the juice/glycerin as a lube so make it easier to twist in and it shouldn't affect the smoke or the seal except to make it easier to slide on and off. sambookamax
ok, good idea...What about some vaseline? or something like that? So I don't waste my shisha juices on the gasket..?
mushrat
*sigh* the places this thread could go.... Bit serously, I use a little olive oil on the 2 hookahs i have with tight gaskets. Eventually the threads will wear and the hookah will leak. Eventually so will the gaskets. You can replace the gasket for a few bucks. My .02. rendevousINreno
I personally like screw on shafts. I have never had a problem with the threads (yet, its been 4 years) If you get a nice enough hookah, where all parts are SS, than there should be no worries. I do not suggest using vaseline because it could eventually get into your vase/liquid. That wont be good.

rendevousINreno
Are you looking for the stem only, or an entire hookah? I know a site or two that have some really ncie screw on shaft hookahs.

hookahmike
1. Vaseline attacks rubber, & you don't want weak leaky rubber do you ? (sorry couldn't resist after Mush's comment )When I use my Egyptian, I just run some hot water over it and stick everything together, goes together easy but snug.2. I like the screw on (Mya & clones) because I can grab the whole thing by the stem to lift it off the floor and KNOW it will stay together until I get the bottom in my hands as opposed to hoping for friction to save my back a bit. 3. I would hope that ALL screw-ons come w/ the rubber washer the the MYA does so that there is no leakage. As you may guess I like my Mya a bit
azcoyote
Water + Glycerin + Propylene Glycol + preservatives = Astroglide It doesn't dissolve rubber products.
Lakemonster
you can work down the base grommets with some sandpaper to get a better fit. It takes a bit of work... but works.I dont like it when hookahs seat up too firmly... it cause injury from breakage or put an eye out if you slip...If you have to strain... its too tight. Hey, another use for that stuff! Yeah, if you're going to go the lube route, make sure it's water-based like Astroglide and KY, DO NOT use oil-based products! djbomberto
what i do is put the gasket it on first (in the base) and then water the stem and when puttin it in the base. I twist it in while pushing down. Goes in smooth, and yes i have the smileys hookah as well.

Hahahaha, that is true!!What about Olive Oil?? I am using one or the other! I've got both, hahaha---Thanks for the suggestion about water, however, it goes in ok, it is taking it apart that is the problem!

ghostofdavid
Olive oil can actually inhibit botulism as it spoils and comes in contact with things that can grow bacteria. You wouldn't wanna deep inhale that. But I've used it before.

Astroglide = YIKES factor to me. i've heard WAYYYY to many horrible stories involving that and because of that, I wouldn't even have that stuff in my house let alone near my hookah! haha~btw, if you were using lube.... go with the warming jelly... ha! sambookamax
I just bought a new one, ended up buying the one at the top of the thread...should be in by Friday!Ok, as for the lube, hahahahahahaha pretty damn funny comments from everyone!Funniest Comment: (2 in a row!)from kornkitten... "YIKES...... (Though my hookah has been "mouthed" more than most people!!!) hahahaha sorry couldn't resist.my hookah gets action at least once a day, if it's lucky 2 times hahahahaha"Here is the thing, the hookah in question is my $15 one from Smiley (which is awesome!), the fit is REALLY tight! So tight, that I really have to use some major force to get it apart, when I use only water as a lube. And I am not a small guy by any means, I bench about 350'ish, so for me to be using that much force, it worries me, I'm worried that I am either gonna snap the glass or break the stem...!?? That is why I am looking for some alternative method, besides water as a lube...I did try a little olive oil on Friday night, and worked out a lot better when I took the hookah apart.I think I might just spit on it, when nobodys looking! That oughta do it! hahaha... spit is the natural lubricant!
