stottyb
It's annoying the hell out of me now, i don't know if you can all understand my frustration but please try!You can by all means have a go at me but please be constructive!WHY'S IT ALWAYS CRAP!!!!I pack it loosely but then when i put the foil on it just burns the shisha! I can't possibly put less in because then there'd be slim to nothing left in my bowl! The bowl is shallow and wide, when i put my coal on it simply burns the top layer of tobacco and tastes disgusting!!!!The shisha cafe i go to always makes it perfect and i really really just don't understand how!!!!I'm using my girlfriends shisha now and its 100% airtight, nothing wrong there.WHAT CAN I DOFROM ONE HOOKAH LOVERS HEART TO ANOTHERS, I JUST WANT A GOOD RELAXING SMOKE!!!!Thanks :-D
Allia22
I had the same problem, try putting 2 layers of foil on. Some pics of your setup, including your bowl, empty and filled, would be helpful.

skiracerj1
despite everyones love affair with the phunnel (i'm one of them to a degree) its not that revolutionary in terms of being able to produce amazing smokes, you should be able to get great smokes out your regular bowl, I agree with erica, it sounds like your not using enough shisha, harsh and thin is a tell tale sign of not enough tobacco. If its harsh and thick, youve got the tobacco right but need either more airflow (more holes, and holes punched all the way through the tobacco), or less heat. It can take a while to get everything down just right, most of us had shitty sessions when we first started, so dont get discouraged, just keep experimenting with different setups and then one of these bowls you'll hit it and from there its off to the proverbial races
Twang
Try less coal. Breaking it up and putting it on the edge of the bowl. Pack more tobacco so its about level with the rim of the bowl.
The King
Make sure your shisha is moist with mollasses. Mine was getting a little harsh so i started using the shisha from the bottom of the container every time and now it is better.
Lazy Dayz
a lot of it depends on what tobacco, what kind of coal, what bowl, even what foil. so basically there could be a lot of things wrong. however definately do not get the phunnel bowl. i don't say that b/c i dislike the phunnel, but if you can't get a regular bowl to smoke right, you will definately have trouble with the phunnel. so yeah, work on the regular packing skills first before moving in to all the heat management with the phunnel bowl. pictures would be very helpful as everyone else has said, or at least what type of tobacco, bowl, and foil you're using. but i do like the fact that you are using a wide shallow bowl, as that is often the key. summary: bowl? tobacco? foil? coal? and yay! for using a shallow bowl. stottyb
The problem is i agree with adding more tobacco but then u have to pack it in and chances are its going to be touching the tin foil and it'll burn it!!I'm going to keep trying and trying and trying until i get it right. I've also spoken to the owner of one of the UK online shops whose making me a pack of loads of sample flavours from different brands, a bigger bowl and some different coals which should help a lot! HAHkoo
less heat. i think that would be the problem, even if you have a lot of tobacco in the bowl and still too much heat it will burn not matter what.
skiracerj1
its ok for the tobacco to touch the foil actually, I do it with almost every bowl i smoke, now im not talking where the foil is really pressing and holding the tobacco down, and haveing the tobacco lightly touching the foil is optimal for getting thick clouds imo
ahuwood
my tobacco almost always touches the foil, don't be overly cautious about that...if you manage the heat then it shouldn't be a huge issue.
AinSophAur
My trick is to do the whole thing sloppy and quick. Grab a good pinch and "plop" it into the bowl. spread it out VERY little. make sure the bowl is filled to the very top. if its too high just push it down a bit. Personally I use a screen (screens for life baby). I find if I use foil it burns too quickly. Put one and a half 33m threekings and I'm good to go. If you cant for the life of you stop the bowl from tasting burnt and harsh try changing to a screen.
not.plugged.in
i have a shallow and wide bowl too and ive heard from some experienced smokers i hookah with say that i need to get a better bowl, currently im debating on a phunnel or a smiley's i suggest you do the same
Allia22
I'm still trying to get the amount of flavor I used to get with the bowl I got with my hookah out of my funnel. Mebbe the mod will help. (expecting a glass mod, 250g F-line Apple and SB Cherry today! I'm so psyched!!! XD) Practice makes perfect, I guess
