So Hmm..dorm Smoking...

Recommended Posts

Well, I was smoking my hookah earlier and low and behold, I get a knock on my door. I urgently place my hookah in the bathroom and open the door. They come in and ask if I had anything I'd like to put in the center of the room. After a little coercing, I decided to get the hookah. Amazingly, they saw my other hookah and supplies and decided "they didn't see it", but for those of your dorm smokers, I'd make sure ALL of the RAs are cool with it, because the ones that busted me aren't even mine.

Damn, you guys have some nazi RAs, i never really had a problem though i wasn't in a classic style dorm. Im off campus now in this school affiliated dorm type deal, still have RAs but its like apartment style. I smoked hookah almost every day last year and never had a problem.

Jeez, this is why I'm glad I don't live on campus. My one friend said he smoked in his dorm and ppl smelled it all the way down the hall and even outside the building. No one cared though.

EDIT: I never really understood dorms not allowing tobacco smoking in the first place. I dont know anyone in college under 18, and it's legal by law, so it just confuses me... then again, my friends college dorms don't even allow him to have extention cords... go figure Edited by jordanneff

There's a law here in Connecticut that says -I shit you not- "Smoking is prohibited in private institutions of higher education".

Meaning, you can't smoke anywhere on my current campus. Although I smoke hookah every day and they'll have to pry it from my cold, dead hands to make me stop.

Maybe it was for all those dental students. They need to pay money and graduate before they can kill themselves.

Where do you guys go? I'll be a freshmen this coming fall at Western Michigan University. Infact I bought my hookah as a college gift to myself! Im gonna smoke it in my dorm. I can be quite sneeky.

I went to CMU last year and we would smoke it in our room and never had a problem. the smell doesnt linger at all and even if it did it doesnt smell bad like cigs so ide say just be carful and you will be fine.

The reason for their Nazi like policies, which I think we have a lot less freedoms today in America than Nazi's did. Is the lack of personal responsibility in our society today.

Frivilous lawsuits, as well as people simply being retarded and not accepting the responsibility for their own actions has caused the public institutions to create policies to protect you.

Since "you" don't have the capability to protect yourself, and generally speaking the will to do so. THey must do it for you.

Btw, those people in college now, it's really going to be up to you to turn this kind of trend around by how you live your lives and raise your children. The only thing, is there going to be enough people fed up with policies like this, who want to take back their personal freedoms, or are there enough people allow themselves to be herded like sheep to their own destruction.

getting cool with the RA's is your only safe bet.

I went to parochial academy for high school where smoking of any kind was grounds for expulsion or (usually) suspension.

towels under the door.... using toilet paper rolls with a Downy sheet atttatched or any of the other presribed methods wont deter a duty bound RA.

I thought I was pretty clever by putting an entire blanket over my door and tucking it into the cracks, but apparently that wasn't good enough, so now I do that + spray ax body spray (stays around forever) as well as febreeze on the blanket by the cracks + take a sheet and put it over my door in my bathroom and smoke in there (goodness, so much work, I don't know if it's worth it) but when I got out of there, could still only smell the ax by the door

I've openly smoked in my room for all 4 years and never had any trouble. I guess at a university they may be a bit more strict but I go to a small school and it's usually pretty laid back. But if you need ventilation, which you probably will at least for lighting coals, buy a box fan, stick it in your window and patch the gap with a pillow or something. Close all your other windows and don't towel your door -- you need air intake for exhaust, and the hallway is the best place to get it.

im currently going to a community college, but my buddies in the dorms say that people just smoke outside... theyll stand in a circle outside the building with their hookah and just puff it. sounds like it just depends what school youre at...

Job sucks, but the pay (at least here) isnt half bad. Plus I make the fucking rules.

or dont stay in the dorms. haha.

im working on that. if everything pans out, i may have a house within the next few days. these dorms make me go crazy, it makes me feel like I am a little kid again because every move is being watched. cant a man jus smoke his hookah were he feels like it.. Edited by ASUSEAN1
