Mya Hoses.

So, having just put in a fairly large Mya order for the bar, me and Mahmoud got to talking.
Apparently if it looks like a Mya, and you get it at a local store or from one of the lesser known web sites, it may not BE a mya. I myself have seen what sure looks like a mya hose at a local smokers friendly, But there is no mya stamp on the handle base and the Plastic bag it comes in doesn't say Mya. No reflection on anyone who's had problems with the washables rusting, but I presntly have over 8 Mya hoses I use on my various hookahs some ive had over 2 1/2 years, and with the exception of one that got partially crushed, have NEVER had a rust problem. Mahmoud says he's been sent rusted "Mya" hoses that were actually knock offs. And has replaced them anyway.

I can't vouch for the truth of what I've been told, but I'm just passing along the info.

He even told me about a Syrian company that was actually stamping the hoses Mya and putting them in "MYA" bags. Says they sued them into oblivion but not before they shipped to a good many places years ago. Edited March 31, 2007 by mushrat

I love my Mya hose. I've never had a problem with mine either and I've had it for almost 2 years. Ordered directly from Mya and the service was excellent. Ever since then I've made it a point to make sure when friends buy a new hookah they pick up Mya hoses, and so far they havn't had a problems either.

Yall have done well, I've had my long handles for about 6 or 8 months or so and Ive already tossed one for rust. I love them but they seem to die out about as fast as the cobra and social smoke hoses to me.

The mya hoses I had that rusted came in Mya bags in a few cases, all had mya stamps on the metal part of the handles, and one even came with the Mya hookah I bought. All rusted. I sent them back and I will let Mya figure it out. But if my replacements nevet rust I think that will be proof that alot of the hoses going around are lesser copies.

I would like Mya to tell us what metal the use for the inner lining that is supposed to be rust proof.

So I finally had an MYA hose go bad. It's one I don't use regularly... and last time I tried it... I breathed in a buncha crap.. So I run water through it and... ORANGE WATER. On top of that, it had a leak... so I thought I'd explore this hose before trashing it. Be prepared to be disgusted.

So, we have a normal looking MYA hose:

I'm pretty disappointed with this. A 'washable' hose?
I'll admit, it held up okay... 1 year and a half of not too often use [this is the 'guests' hose]

But still. This sucks. Wanna see what we inhale when we have a dying hose?

Well its starting to look like you can't chance buying anything Mya from any dealer whatsoever then. I think the reality is that these hoses arent as washable as they are made out to be. The wire isnt stainless steel or plastic, both of which would fix this. Plus they are made in chinese sweat shops where people have to produce huge quotas that if they are off by 1 item at the end of the day lose half there pay.

I got my hoses from Lebanon, elitehookah.com, ebay, all rusted. I have only 2 hoses left and I sent off 6 or 8 to mya to see what they say. Edited March 31, 2007 by Scarecrow

did you hang up that hose after every time you used it? or just leave it wrapped around the hookah?

I hang my hoses on a hook when not using them.

Id say it was washed maybe every other week, when it was being used. But it wasnt used much/regularly.

i think smiley should start making washables. i am sure he could make something that lasts. I havnt had to much trouble with my washable, i usually jus buy new ones every couple months. i found out though, they last a lot longer if you hang them up after each time you use them

I think it would be neat if someone made all rubber hoses, but using a reallllly supple rubber, something that isnt stiff and something that doesnt kink. and have it made with a nice hose cover already on it.

if mya just used tht plastic inner tubing ahead of the coils instead of behind tht, all these problems wld be solved dun u think. i'm sure their design team wld have thought of something like tht, however if i were to think like a bussiness man i wld let them rust. then u buy new ones, mya sells more. everyone of my hoses has rusted as well, stainless steel coils wld also prevent this rusting. maybe hoses shld be labeled non-rusting instead of washable, so we know wat we're getting into when we buy a hose

Mya needs to replace there metal wire with a plastic one or one that is coated like electrical wire or go to stainless. Because of the plastic layers any water that gets in there will stay with the metal wire until it rust, the rust will cause the wire to penetrate the plastic layer causing more rust. Overall I think Mya has to say they are copies rusting because they would be open to false advertisement claims if they dint.

It's nice to get some clarification from MYA... kinda.

I guess the only truly washable hose is one you make yourself. I did and never looked back. In fact
have never used my MYA washable since.

Now one of these days, after i move, i think i will cut open my MYA.. brought from Hookahcompany.com A reputatable retailer?

I personally do not think this story will come to an easy end!

I had that same talk with him about that. So when I saw the post about it rusting I really wondered if its real or not.

He says the hose ring itself is stainless steel and it should not rust.

So in all honesty, who knows what is really going on.

several of my mya washable hoses that i got in mya bags dont have the mya stamp on them anywhere else.

All the ones i have i have ripped open and saw rust EVERYWHERE. i since went out to home depot and got clear tubing and made my own. I haven't chopped open my new hoses (got two) but they also dont have mya on them anywhere but were sold through dealers online. so i dunno

from what i can tell by looking at the mya site that in the pictures besides the water markon the pictures there isn't a stamp shown.?????? i dunno Edited March 31, 2007 by kornkitten42

Right. But i figured since it had been a topic of discussion of late..i'd pass the messege along to those who probably DON'T actually talk with them much. You are all welcome to make your own judgements. I may go cut open the damaged hose I have for my own interest, since I know it came frm them directly...

The Mya hose I got with my QT, directly from Mya, does not have a Mya stamp on the handle like my other Myas do. It also doesn't look quite the same, as there is no solid metal tip, just a tiny bit of metal bent out around the wood at the exit hole. Not sure if that makes any sense to you all... Anyway, ?

Actually, thats sounds right for the QT. they don't normaly come with the metal tipped hoses. and the plain wooden ones have a little metal ring like you describe right inside the opening. You should be cool.
