Lakemonster
Several years ago I began playing golf..... which I havent played in a long time.Anyway.... some of the "gun buddies" online ribbed me about the "silly" game and how golf courses were a good waste of a possible gun range. So I went and pulled out my ballistics book and started doing some math.It turns out that average golf ball has the same "killing power" as a subsonic .22 caliber bullet. There is only 6 fps (foot/pounds.... an expression of force energy) difference between a golf ball leaving the tee from a 100mph speed club head drive and an Aguila subsonic .22 bullet leaving a 6 inch barrel.Be sure to yell "Fore"

Allia22
See, I don't play sports ever since quitting softball. One reason is because it stopped being fun when people started yelling at me for not having *any* athletic prowess. The other more obvious reason is because it developed a very real fear of heavy objects hurtling through the air. Light objects too, for that matter. People toss me keys or cell phones and I dodge it. FEAR
web250
Sure, if the golfball were shaped like a bullet it might pierce you, but the dimples and and size prevent much damage.

kornkitten42
true story.....My old bosses mom was on the green at our local golf course one day when we were working at the animal hospital. We get a phone call from her mothers husband telling us what happened as she was being rushed to the ER by ambulance. There was a guy teeing off and yelled FOUR!!!!!!!!!!All of a sudden WHACK the ball hits janice (bosses mom) in the face and breaks her orbital, her cheek bone, her jaw, her nose, and gave her a concussion. It smashed her face to a pulp and since then has had 8+ surgeries and reconstruction surgeries in order to get her looking somewhat back to normal. They had to put a metal plate in her face!!!! (on the plus side, i think she gets good reception now!)she was a good ways away and that guy still ended up nailing her. golf balls can cause serious damage!!!lol Edited April 1, 2007 by kornkitten42
Lakemonster
web..... the ball will not penetrate the body due to the diameter..... it simply has (almost) the energy a of a .22 bullet. The diameter of the bullet will allow it to penetrate the skin and whatever other tissue because of its small size, the energy has is delivered on a smaller surface area.KK testimony delivers what a golf ball will do not penetrate, but expend its energy on a cutaneous level... and break internal bones and bruise and casue hemmorages to the surrounding tissue and vessels.A golf ball will slow down sooner than a .22 bullet due to less drag of the smaller surface area. While the .22 bulet will make a small hole thru (or almost thru) a head.... the golf ball will expend all its energy on one side of the head... Almost through??? It will go through but it just may not make an exit wound. But by staying in the body its actually doing more damage then if it was a straight shot through. Lake, don't go all "a .22 can be stopped by wearing a pair of jeans on me."Funny, about the speed. So I guess for this test we need to pick up a supressor to see which one will make more noise. Make sure you bring a thousand golf balls.

ghostofdavid
One of the hottest girls I knew when I was in high school had plastic surgery done to her face because her dad hit her in the face with a golf CLUB as he was teeing off at a practice range. I always wanted to ask her what she looked like before plastic surgery, but I thought it in poor taste.
The King
Damn, I played golf yesterday and sliced one bad off the tee, It hit a tree and almost hit someone driving a cart. That would have been a bad day
djbomberto
the way i look at it, the speed of the balls ( ) are extremely fast. Like Jai-lai (sp?) people get killed in that sport as well. both are dangerous.
