Somebody Shoot Me. I Can't Get Tangiers To Smoke.

hey guys. i need some help with tangier's. i have melon, peach, and guava and none of them taste good at all. here's my setup

mya mini acrylic
medium phunnel bowl w/o mod
natural coals (forgot brand)

and here's what i do when i try tangiers

1. load the bowl by putting in shisha up to the rim not covering the hole and not packing it in. just light and fluffy i guess.
2. start out with a small 1" coal and add as needed every 10 mins or so.
3. cough up a lung because it tastes like shit on a stick

whenever i try tangier's it taste like crap. i set it up the same way that i set up the after nine. I've tried packing it really tight, really loose, more holes, less holes, bigger holes, smaller holes, different pipes, different bowls, new hoses, natural coals, quicklight coals, pretty much EVERYTHING i could think of. and i've heard that tangiers requires less heat so thats why i start off with only a small 1" coal and add very slowly until i get more smoke which is close to none. it kind of tastes like clorine. HELP HELP HELP HELP HELP. this stuff was not cheap and i need it to smoke so PLEASE HELP

I think you should start out with more heat at least 2x1" on opposite sides of the bowl, possibly do 3x1" and then when you get it going take one off.

O.K. this is how I setup my hookah with tangiers and it usually works always. I stir up tangiers until the juice is very evenly distributed thought out all of the tobacco. then I just sprinkle the tobacco in the bowl until it reaches the top or a little above the top. After that I thrown a piece of foil on top of the bowl and I poke about 40 small holes with a tooth pick. I blow through the bottom of the bowl. You should feel some resistance but no too much. Then you put the bowl on top of the hookah. Don't use any ice... it's a no no. Then I place (2) 1" coals on top of the bowl on the edges of the bowl. Sometimes the first five minutes are a bit harsh, but then it clears up. btw the coals that I use are either natural or blak magic Japanese coals.

had the same prob with the tangiers it tasted so bad that i gave it to my buddy and never smoked it after that, the thing about tangiers its a cheap tabaco, and it sucks sorry but this is what i think after i smoke layalina and starbuzz. also on the harshness try to use a hevry duty FOIL if your using that, so it wont burn quick.

gona have to disagree w/ hookah head... u just quit to early.

keep trying you will figure out how to get it right. and once u do u will be so happy.

tangiers is like a 3 part happiness
1. you finally got the shit to smoke right
2. it tastes so freaking good
3. u will fall on the ground and spasm because u have so much of a buzz

haha well maybe not so much the 3rd... happened to one of my friends tho. sigh. fun stuff

Do I smell a hater? As aldonb1 said it takes a while to get used to the tobacco itself. Also before you make assumptions about how cheap the tobacco is, I would give it a few tries. Maybe the source of error is you since there are so may people on this forum that can smoke it. Maybe if you put down the hateraid you would realize that like other tobaccos, they are not for everyone.

put on 3 coals. when i use my medium funnel i use 3 coals and it works great. make sure foil isn't touching shisha either

ok from all accounts tangiers is just about the hardest stuff to smoke.

Heres' what most people have come together with.

1. pack the bowl with lots of loose tobacco, it should be above the lid. The general consensus seems to be over pack it.
2. Mushy cuts his before he packs it, says its much easier to smoke that way, its worth a try.
3. put the foil on make sureyou hve plenty of holes, no need to over do it, just make sure there is airflow.
4. optimally use a scally mod on the phunnel, make one buy one, whatever.
5. lite your coals, untill they are good and red hot, normally one will work but a med phunnel is pretty damn big so will need 2 or 3.
6. bun off all quickstart if your using that, if not, till its all glowing red.
7. BTW, which flavor are you smoking?

like i said it is cheap and i didnt like it all that could be just me, i am not hating on anyone, or on tangiers it just what i thnk, and what i smoke when it comes to quality stuff, all i am saying is that there is better stuff out there if he is not having any luck with tangiers.

Once you know the proper way to set it up, nothing smokes like Tangiers. I had some difficulty myself until Eric showed me how he does it. I'll see if I have any pics.

Here ya go. Notice the three holes directly above the funnel. This is a small funnel by the way. Use a lot of shisha as well. I might post more pics of that later, if I get to smoke a bowl. Yeah i've punctured holes like that with a fork , works good. Make sure you fill your bowl..not compressing it , just making sure there's enough tobacco.

Tangiers takes practice to smoke perfectly , but it's worth it.

One day I'll man up and try it for myself. Is it harder without a phunnel, i just have the standard clay bowl that came with mine.
