KillZedKill
In about 5 or so years, when im like, 24 or so, i plan on having kids and such. I was wondering what most people do about hookah smoking around there kids. Would it be kind of like a , keep it in the closet and smoke when my spouse and I are alone? Or just do it out on the patio or wherever. Does anyone on here have kids that are older-ish, or getting there? What do you do?
The King
hmm, idk what I would do, I'm only 17, so atleast I can give you a teenagers point of view. My parents do not smoke cigs or anything, and don't know about my hookah, because I'm pretty sure they wouldn't approve. They wouldn't flip out or anything, but they wouldn't be happy. I think smoking when your kids are around would be pretty attractive to the kids and make them want to try it. and then if you dont let them try it, they'll just try to do it on their own. But maybe if you give them a good enough explanation that it is something they have to wait to try till they are older, they'll understand. but once the kids a teen, he'll probably try it one way or another. So you just have to think is that something that you wouldn't mind your kids doing when they get older?

kornkitten42
well with children if they are small (infant) try not to smoke around them. Second hand smoke isn't great for them no matter what it is. When they are in preschool/ elem dont do it around them. They way the school system is, they pry into your childrens minds to turn them against their parents and will most likely talk to their teachers and such and you may be investigated by the school and DCF. When they are in middle school you have a chance to be honest with them. Tell them what it is. Show them and educate them that it is soley for tobacco use only. Middle schoolers know what drugs are and have probably tired them all ready. As for highschool, you have your choice. Just let them know it's for them when they turn 18 but by that time they will most likely have smoked one since highschoolers alway sget their hands on things they are not allowed to have. some people let their children smoke, it's up the the parent, though the law says 18. I think thats stupid if your parents give you permission and under their supervision it should be permitted as long as it takes place inside your residence. What gets me irritated is you can operate a vehicle at 15/16 years old and possibly kill others and yourself, but your not allowed to smoke? retarded..... AKammenzind
Hrm, that is an interesting question and I'm in the same boat... personally I think that I'll keep smoking, but not around them because smoke does seem to stunt growth and regardless isn't good for them. It mightn't be a half bad idea to let the kid take a puff of a cigar or something when he/she get curious (so long as they're not very little)... a puff of a harsh cigar might well be enough to eliminate their curiosity for a good long while Of course this might all be pointless, as in 5 years the govt. will probably have outlawed things such as tobacco, alcohol, "sexcrime" und so weiter, a lot might depend on the '08 election. If they are under 18 and wanna smoke my hookah... as a dad I would rather have them smoke the good stuff rather than the bad stuff, so I wouldn't have a problem if they smoked hookah at home with the parents. Since my mom is like an anti-smoking nazi, I told myself when I had kids, I would allow them to make a choice, rather than force my own views and make them law on the subject. Kym
Smoke outside! Thats it. Don't shelter your children. They will grow up and they will see everything. Hookah is part of a culture and people that shelter thier kids from things that they think are bad should not be smoking hookah themselves!!! Practice what you preach! I am not saying give the hose to the five year old. Don't hide it like it's illeagal or something thats just going to make them want to sneak around and try it. Kids are smarter than people think and as long as you explain to them that its an adult thing to do then it's ok! You wouldn't hide a beer from your kids would you. Alcohol is bad for you. It's just an adult thing to do. Kids need a little more respect! But after all that "second hand smoke is not thier choice", SMOKE OUTSIDE!!! jordanneff
Just don't blow smoke in their face and everything should be alright I think having kids, or all people in general well informed is the best thing. As long as they are old enough to understand what's going on and you can explain it all, then there shouldnt be a problem in my opinion.
Allia22
Tch, when I was little, my dad let me have sips of his beer every once in a while when I asked what he was drinking. I'd hate it, not ask again for a few years, and try it again. Then I learned what alcohol was at
Erica
Kids are curious... there is no doubt about that.. But I think Kym was on the right track..You don't want to hide it from them or else they will grow up being ignorant about the hookah just like all the people you all hate! Just let them know that it is an adult thing and when they get older they can have the choice to smoke or not to smoke. Granted I think 18 is a little old to try and hide it from them...I know if I ever have kids that when they turn 16 and are curious and asking about it I wouldn't mind giving them a few puffs here and there... I'd rather them be with me then with their punk friends putting other crap in the bowls! I dunno.. I remember when I was really little I took one of my moms cigs and took a lighter out onto the porch... tried to light it... she came out saw what I was doing and MADE me smoke a few puffs. I got sick.. and absolutly hated cigs... Still do actually...
