cemab4y
In 1998, I went to a little Arabian shop in Nashville, and I found several packs of "Zaghloul" brand tobacco. It was in small yellow cardboard packs. The tobacco was wrapped in cellophane, and the packs had been sitting on the shelf for a long time, because their was a layer of dust on them. The cellophane cracked and shattered, because it was so old. The tobacco had no (additional) flavoring other than molasses. the leaves were ancient, and I chuckled, that they had probably found it in some pharoah's tomb.I took the packs home, and carefully unwrapped the ancient cellophane. The leaves were brittle, and crumbled. I took an atomizer, and gently sprayed water on the dessicated leaves, and they slowly regained their suppleness. Once I could handle them without shattering, I loaded up the bowl, and mounted and lit off the charcoal.ZOW- BANG! What a buzz! That was the strongest tobacco I ever smoked in my life. The sensation grabbed me by my socks, and pulled it up to my lower lip! I used up all of the tobacco in a couple of days, and I never found that brand again.Has anyone here, ever experienced the power of "Zaghloul"?? bolt in blue
Does zaghloul taste and smell like molasses or does it taste and smell more like other tobaccos (cigarettes, cigars, or pipes)? I've enjoyed smoking expensive cigars and some pipe tobacco, but I've never had the desire to smoke a cigarette. They smell absolutely foul. Do any of you who like zaghloul smoke other things regularly? Right now, the only thing I ever smoke is the hookah.

cemab4y
I have been a hookah smoker for 10 years, but I have never smoked a cigarette in my life. My wife smokes Virginia Slims, and I am of course familiar with the aroma of many of the mainstream brands of cigarettes. Trust me, Egyptian Zaghloul tobacco has no remote comparison with Kentucky Burley tobacco (prime ingredient in American cigarettes). Zaghloul is strong, arabian leaf. The processing of this tobacco is to dessicate (dry) the leaves, and then they are packed in molasses, and anise (the herb that gives licorice its flavor). Zaghloul has no fruit jam or other ingredients added. My experience, is that the tobacco sold here in Nashville, has been on the shelf for a very long time. I prefer to unwrap the cellophane inner pack carefully, then spray a mist of water directly on the leaves. This makes them more supple, and less likely to crumble. Then pack the tobacco gently into the ceramic bowl, and then place the charcoal directly on the tobacco, without foil or screen. The smoke is very powerful and rich, so take it easy. Once, I placed a couple of drops of mint oil, directly on top of the tobacco, and then placed the charcoal on. The mixture of mint and molasses, was very soothing and enjoyable.
