Phunnel Bowls - Tangiers Or Mnh Glass?

Ive been reading through the reviews of both after hearing about the wonders of phunnel bowls, and this is what i have found:

Tangiers is big, even the smallest one (HookahCompanies small is MNH's medium) is ~50g's capacity. Ive heard no complaints on it other than the scalli mod only works on the medium (MNH) and the small, which i have yet to find anywhere. This is a negative for me because i mostly smoke alone and such a large bowl would be both a waste of coals and shisha.

Is there a Tangiers small (<40g's)? It was mentioned with the scalli glass mod but its nowhere to be found.
Could i pack the medium with 20-30g's and still have it work fine?

MNH's glass bowl are more my size at 10-15g's small and 30-35g's large, and the mod can be requested with the order though apparently its only necessary for the large. The downside is that they are unreasonably deep which apparently causes alot of waste and smoking problems.

Does anyone know if i can specify the depth of the bowl when ordering? what would you suggest a good depth to be?

just get a medium, screw what the description says, cuz i measured it myself and it never came out right.

I bought the MNH funnel bowl with there glass scalli mod, and its the best smoke ive had in a long time. I like how you can put the tobacco right over the mod since the funnel is low.

I didnt know quite how 20,30, or 50 grams looked, or even how deep or how much my bowl could hold. I dont know what my bowl is called, but its what came with the hookah i bought, pretty standard looking clay measuring 2.5" dia and .75" depth. I usually can pack it pretty lightly (like 1/2 the bowls total volume) and get an hour long session out of it for one person which is all i want, though a half bowl has more than enough worked for two without using all of it. Hope this helps anyone who doesnt know quite what their getting into when they buy a "small" 50 gram funnel bowl.

As you can see 10g's is more than enough for two people, and quite excessive for one. Getting a bowl any larger than 20g's, packed sparsely, would be a complete waste of shisha for any type of personal use. Packing a 50g bowl depending on your source would deplete 1/5 of a normal 250g tub, and cause one to have to re-store the partially ashy remnants for further use. I stopped at 30g's because i had difficulty getting it all on my scale, measuring to about the size of a lemon. I would suggest avoiding bowl depth's exceeding 1".

So to answer my own questions because no one else seems able to:

1. No such thing as a small tangiers.
2. Probably, but id have to use alot of coals to cover the wide surface area which would probably burn the little amount of shisha i would put in.
3. I will ask and see.

i read a while back that the glass phunnel is too deep causing it to waste a lot of shisha on the bottom, but i dont know first hand I have the tangiers one and love it. medium and large and both are great. you don't need to pack the entire phunnel, you can just pack half of it

I saw a thread where someone was showing off his collection and he had a nice small tangiers, but i searched the trade section, ebay, and froogle for a tangier's funnel and only medium and large are being sold. Im going to end up going with a mnh small glass, i just have to figure out whether i should request the mod or if its even necessary on a bowl that small.

no, i mean the actual small tangiers. HC's small is actually the medium, and their medium is actually the large. Theres was alot of discussion and its been established, but heres further proof that a small funnel existed:

I ordered a Medium Phunnel bowl from mnhookah.com, Tangier's phunnel bowl,
Large Phunnel Bowl, holds 60-75 grams of tobacco
Medium Phunnel Bowl 40-50g of tobacco
Small Phunnel Bowl 20-25g of tobacco

Would love to get a small. No tangiers site, only a few distriubtors, no idea whats going on. Have their phunnel bowls been discontinued?

edit: Did some more research through old threads and seems as if they were selling them as recent as a month or two ago. I guess i will have to talk with MNH about it. Im sure the glass one will work just as well, its just i have a tendency to drop things. The only thing i cant find is the dimensions of the small tangiers phunnel.... I have a small and medium Tangs phunnels and I love them both. But I still want to get a glass version and a glass mod and check them out. They look extremely nice. Since glass does not conduct heat very well I am very interested into how this effects the smoke. I have lots of theories but I am not banking much on my theories to be honest.
The only thing I am pretty sure of is that the glass versions will function differently and they look badass to say the least. But the tangs bowls, regular or phunnel are gorgeous as well.
So instead of being torn, why not have it all?

Not ony that but I am fairly confident that different brands and possibly even flavors will work better with one and some with the other. Playing with them is the fun part. It makes this a very fun hobby/lifestyle.

just as an FYI on the Tangier's Small that MN Hookah's carries; I talked to them earlier this week, and they are expecting them back in stock in 2-3 weeks.

Ive heard some people say something similar, but i cant find the dimensions for it such as diameter and bowl depth to determine how 10-15 grams is feasible in a bowl that can fit 50g's. the medium has a 3" diameter, just like the normal tangiers bowls

I also have their Glass Phunnel which works wonders. Plus, I had it custom made with a wicked sweet Tri-Force.

I have an unfounded theory for the wet shisha at the bottom of the funnels that looks smokable. Any of those out there who are much more scientific than I think that it is potentially possible that the seemingly unused shisha that appears to be wet with glycerin and flavouring is actually condensated water (ONLY water) left over from the steaming of the shisha in the bowl? I'd tried mixing up my phunnel after a 2-3 hour session, adding new foil and smoking what was on the bottom and it tastes like a cashed out bowl.

Monkey, The reason that you would want/use so much hookah tobacco like 20g + is because either you are partying and a lot of people are hitting the hookah thus using a lot more than normally or 2 you are going to be smoking that bowl for 2 or 3 days in a row. In regards to what other people have said... the funnel is not as big as the descriptions say it is. This also depends upon the tobacco that you use because some tobaccos like havanah are very small and fit into a more compact space where as tangiers is larger and will fill the bowl with less because of the packing technique and the size of the tobacco. As davey said, the glass funnel bowl is wonderful and does a great job with creating a great smoking session.

Just request a simple design from Tarik (MN Hookah) and ask for a price + he will check with the bowl maker to make you a custom one.. it shouldn't be that much extra.
